Experience the Magic of Paris
When I was younger, I always dreamt of having a croissant by the Eiffel Tower. But life happened, work, responsibilities, business, hobbies, and all the other things that just needed my time and attention. However, as I am getting older, I want to go back to my childhood and slowly give the little child and teenager in me things they dreamed of. So one day, after moving schedules and budgets around, I decided to solo travel to Paris. Booked that trip, never looked back, and have never been the same since.
From the iconic Eiffel Tower to the historic streets of Montmartre, Paris is a feast for the senses. You’ll discover world-class museums like the Louvre, where art comes alive, and charming cafes that invite you to linger over a croissant and café au lait. This city embodies romance and creativity, offering something for everyone.
Exploring Paris will not only give you unforgettable memories but also change your perspective on what travel can be. You’ll return home with a renewed sense of wonder and inspiration. I would say that all my other travels after Paris have been fun, but still, nothing compares.
So if Paris is something you have been dreaming of but are not sure if you should, this is your sign. That doesn’t mean you have to book it right away. But this is your sign to start planning, budgeting, putting in that extra work, and making things happen.
A Great Travel Investment Choice
Traveling to Paris is a fantastic investment in experiences that will enrich your life. While it may seem pricey upfront, think of the countless stories, connections, and cultural insights you’ll gain. Plus, Paris is full of free and low-cost activities, from strolling along the Seine to visiting public parks like the Luxembourg Gardens. The city also has an extensive public transportation system that makes getting around easy and affordable, so you can maximize your experience without breaking the bank.
What do you want to experience? When you travel intentionally, you will be able to experience the joy of being in Paris as you marvel at beauty and history.
If you don’t want to spend so much. Sitting around a cafe and enjoying the view will change the way you experience travel. Lounging by the Seine River just having a picnic, or walking around the streets looking at beautiful buildings.
There is something so magical about sitting on the streets and soaking in Paris. It truly is a vibe.
Ways to Save Money in Paris
To enjoy Paris without overspending, consider these money-saving tips:
- Stay in an Apartment: Opt for a vacation rental or an Airbnb in a less touristy arrondissement. This can provide more space and a kitchen to prepare meals, saving you money on dining out.
- Eat Like a Local: Look for bakeries, markets, and local bistros. Grab a sandwich or fresh produce from a market instead of dining in restaurants for every meal. Food is more affordable than you think. Your baguette, cheese, and deli can go a long way, especially if you don’t want to save money. Some restaurants around the popular area offer a full meal for about 20 euros and that includes a main, side, and a drink.
- Use Public Transport: Get a Navigo pass for unlimited access to the metro and buses. It’s far cheaper than taxis and allows you to explore like a local. However, if you’re not very comfortable using public transit, you can Uber to save time. Paris is a walkable city, if you plan your visits and itinerary accordingly, you’ll find that lots of things are within walking distance.
- Visit Museums on Free Days: Many museums offer free entry on the first Sunday of each month. Plan your visits accordingly to save on admission fees. For all other museums, purchasing timed tickets is worth it so you can skip the line and save time.
- Pick Hotels With Snacks And Free Drinks. I’ve stayed at some of the Happy Culture Franchise hotels when I was in Paris. They had complimentary snacks, lemon water, tea, and coffee in their lobby. When I did my grocery shopping, they also stored some of my deli meats in their fridge. Picking a hotel that has snacks and drinks can help you save money. Also, you will not need to buy bottles of water all the time since you have them available in the lobby.
Safety First: Avoiding Theft in Paris
While Paris is generally safe for tourists, it’s important to stay vigilant. Here are a few tips to avoid getting robbed:
- Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Keep an eye on your belongings, especially in crowded places like the metro or tourist attractions.
- Avoid Distractions: Be cautious of people approaching you with signs or asking for help; this is often a diversion tactic.
- Use a Crossbody Bag: A secure bag that you can easily access while keeping an eye on it can deter pickpockets.
Enjoying Paris to the Fullest : Why Travel To Paris
To make the most of your Parisian adventure, prioritize experiences that resonate with you. Take time to explore different neighborhoods, each with its unique vibe. Engage with locals, try cooking classes, or join a guided walking tour. Take leisurely strolls along the Seine at sunset and savor the art of doing nothing in one of the city’s many parks.
When I was in Paris, I booked 2 hotels with a balcony view. This way I was able to wake up to different sides of the city even though I was only in Paris for 3 full days. I woke up to different sides of the city and it was magnificent. I only packed a carry-on and strategically sorted my clothes so that it would be easy for me to move hotels. It was one of the best ideas for such a short stay!
The Seine River cruise during sunset towards the night sky is one of my favorites and I felt was so worth the money to be able to see the city lights from a boat.
Choosing the Right Arrondissement : Why Travel To Paris
Paris is divided into 20 arrondissements, each offering a different atmosphere. The 1st and 2nd arrondissements are great for first-time visitors, with attractions like the Louvre and Palais Royal nearby.
The 11th and 12th arrondissements offer a more local feel, with vibrant dining options. Consider your priorities—proximity to sights, nightlife, or a quiet neighborhood—when choosing where to stay.
My favorite was around the 8th and 9th arrondissements mainly because it was walkable to a lot of places. Although most of Paris is walkable, the access to major museums and malls was an easier walk for me.
Make a list or itinerary of places you want to go to and experience. From there reverse engineer which arrondissement is the most central to them all and stay there. This will save you money on transportation.
Budgeting for Your Paris Trip
For a week-long (5-7 days) stay in Paris, you should budget around $1,500 to $2,500, depending on your preferences for accommodations and activities. Here’s a breakdown:
- Accommodation: $800 – $1,500 (for a mid-range hotel or Airbnb)
- Food: $300 – $500 (mix of some pastries, eating dinner out, and the rest grocery shopping)
- Activities: $200 – $400 (including museum entries and tours)
- Transportation: $50 – $100 (mostly if you are using the Metro, if you are going to Uber, expect more)
Best Time to Travel to Paris
The best time to visit Paris is during the spring (April to June) and fall (September to October). These months offer mild weather and fewer tourists. The slowest time is typically in winter (December to February), excluding the holiday season, when you can enjoy a quieter experience and potentially lower prices.
When I went to Paris in March, it was great! It was warm enough during the day to enjoy things and walk around. But at night, it was cozy and cool. Most restaurants had their outdoor dining space set up with blankets and heaters and it was beautiful!
