This is not to say that you need to avoid reality. We can live in reality and feel all our feelings but put more weight on what we are thankful for.

This might be hard because some of the “negatives” are most likely around us every day like coworkers and maybe even family. But it is important to limit your exposure to them.
  4. Set Boundaries: Learn to say no to things that drain your energy or don’t align with your values. Protecting your time and energy is crucial for maintaining inner peace. As mentioned earlier, we cannot avoid everything, but you can limit how much time you spend with the people that somehow suck up your energy and kill your vibe.
  5. Declutter Your Space: A tidy environment can lead to a clearer mind. Spend a few minutes each day organizing your space to create a more peaceful atmosphere. It can be tempting to hold on to things “just in case” but those are holding space for something that hasn’t happened yet blocking the things that will benefit you “right now” like clarity and space.
  6. Do Things You Enjoy. When you are engaged with things you enjoy or even things you want to learn and discover, your mind, body, and soul get reset. Whether it’s a new sport, hobby, or any activity that helps quiet the noise, will be beneficial on how to find inner peace.

  1. Overcommitment: Saying yes to too many things can lead to burnout. Remember, it’s okay to prioritize your peace. I found that when I add “me time” or “peace time” in my calendar and block it out, it makes it easier for me to say no because I can clearly see the time I am saving for “me”.

This has been very hard for me as I have been always hard on myself. I always had this notion that I have to “achieve” and always be “doing” but slowly when I replaced these talks in my head, I have been mindful to also start “being”.
  3. Unhealthy Relationships: Surround yourself with supportive, positive people. Toxic relationships can drain your energy and disturb your inner peace. When you feel that after interaction with certain people, you feel like you doubt yourself, you question your abilities, and you don’t feel supported, those are not your people. Creating distance will do you a world of good.
  4. Perfectionism: Accept that it’s okay not to be perfect. Striving for perfection can create unnecessary stress and anxiety. Every single person in this world is supposed to be human, not perfect. We can strive for excellence and bring our best all the time, but there is no such thing as perfection.

This is where journaling helps. You can let everything out and clear your mind to be able to make room for kindness and compassion.

Word to the wise, not all of your friends and family can and will understand what you’re going through. Know the people in your life who can hold space for your experiences and current state of mind. Speaking to a professional is always best to help manage more challenging situations.
  4. Focus on What You Can Control: During tough times, it’s easy to get caught up in things you can’t change. Focus your energy on what you can control and let go of the rest. It’s hard to reconcile sometimes when we work harder or when to surrender. I found that sometimes, I let things fall apart. It’s hard and most of the time I am scared of the repercussions, but at the same time, I know that I need to make room for better things and sometimes that means, I might need to let go of the things that are no longer working for me.
